Shaun

Downtown Delights Tour Guide & Guru

Shaun is originally from Riverside, California but considers Las Vegas to be home sweet home. In 1988, when he was just 8 years old, he stepped off the train with his grandmother at the Union Plaza (currently the Plaza Hotel and Casino) in downtown Las Vegas to start a new life. He spent much of his childhood in Sin City so he has many memories of what Vegas used to be.

“I remember Vegas before Fremont Street became the Fremont Street Experience, before the Dunes became the Bellagio, and when Wet N’ Wild was located on the Las Vegas Strip.”

As a young adult, Shaun tried out living in a few other places around the United States.

“I left Vegas a few times to live in Michigan, Indiana, and Utah but Vegas keeps calling me back.”

He officially moved back to Vegas in 2015. Over the years, he has had many food and beverage jobs from working as a cook to owning his own sandwich shop. In May of 2018 he officially became one of your Taste Buzz Food Tours tour guides where he combines his love for food, history, story telling, and meeting people.

Shaun typically shows people around Downtown Las Vegas on our Downtown Delights Foodie Tour, sharing his knowledge of Vegas history and foodie recommendations in the area. Even if he’s not working, you might find him hanging out in the area feasting on prime rib at one of the old school steakhouses or checking out one of the new restaurants that are popping up all over DTLV.

Q & A

When did you realize you were a foodie?

I didn’t realize I was a foodie until it became a “thing.” I used to drive to places I would read about just to try it. One time after working a 16 hour shift, I drove 60 miles for sliders and Coney dogs that a food critic had written about in New Haven, Indiana.

What’s your favorite food?

Rib meat. I love ribeye, prime rib, ribs, short ribs, and all vegetables especially cruciferous vegetables.

What’s your favorite food to cook?

I love making comfort food like soup, stew, and pasta sauce. I make a mean red sauce with Italian hot sausage and red wine.

What’s your favorite Las Vegas restaurant?

Bob Taylor’s Original Ranch House. Everything is smoked. The Prime rib, chicken liver, crab meat…

Where can we find you on your day off?

Dining, a magic show, or signing karaoke at Dino’s, Ellis Island, or Champagnes.
